U.S., National Security Advisor HR McMaster visited India to reaffirm strategic partnership

On 18 april United States National Security Advisor, HR McMaster meet PM Narendra Modi, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and foreign secretary S Jaishankar. In this meeting they hold talks upon reaffirming the strategic partnership between U.S. and India that involves not only a growing defence relationship but also shared perspectives of the region. United States National Security Adviser (NSA) Lt Gen HR McMaster’s visited to India and Pakistan because of rising tensions between these two countries. Especially after the announcement of death sentence to alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav by a Pakistani military court. So, after visiting Pakistan and Afghanistan, McMaster visited India yesterday and met Indian NSA Ajit Doval and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

  • According to the PMO, the two sides “exchanged views on how both countries can work together to effectively address the challenge of terrorism and to advance regional peace, security and stability.”
  • “The two sides discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues, including their shared interest in increasing defense and counter terrorism cooperation. The visit was a part of regional consultations that included stops in Kabul and Islamabad.”

PM Modi is expected to travel to Washington DC for his first summit with Donald Trump this summer, though dates were not revealed. It is believed McMaster’s discussions included talks on the visit, though there was no official confirmation.
