Universal Pictures released the new trailer of The Mummy and it features Tom Cruise battling against an Egyptian queen. Directed by Alex Kurtzman, this reboot of “The Mummy” franchise features Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson and Russel Crowe in lead roles and film buffs believe that this movie will be an ultimate visual treat for viewers who love the deadly wrapped Egyptian bodies.
“The Mummy” released in 1999 went on to earn over $400 million worldwide and its enormous success at the box office led to many sequels, prequel and spin-offs.
This reboot of “The Mummy” franchise revolves around the story of an ancient princess named Ahmanet who was mummified and entombed in an ancient tomb. After centuries of sleep inside her burial place in a lonely desert, she wakes up and takes revenge on the humans who live in the contemporary world. This violent and malicious grudge that has grown inside her is capable of destroying the entire planet and this brings about an enormous wave of chaos all around.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East and then through modern day London, The Mummy brings in intensity, wonder and thrills in equal measures
The director in a recent interview spoke about the film and said “I think that our goal was to make a movie that is full of suspense, full of adventure, that has moments of horror but we cannot define this as a ‘horror movie’”. Casting Tom Cruise in this can be said to be a major coup of sorts. He brings in the element of unpredictability and looks impressive in the trailer.
Reboots and remakes are gaining popularity in Hollywood and the latest examples of this trend are Beauty and the Beast, Logan and Kong: The Skull Island.
The Mummy is set for a June 9 release. Trade experts believe that the film is bound to work well at the box office even if it is not lauded for its cinematic excellence.
