Superstar Akshay Kumar starrer hit ‘Padman’ will have it’s television premiere on 26 May at 8 pm on Zee Cinemas. Padman was a decent success at the box office as it made really good profit but did not match up to his usual 100+ crores collection. Theme of the film is rather controversial for families to watch together as periods being a taboo which is why perhaps it did not turn out to be as big of a success. Film garnered a lot of critical acclaim and credibility for Akshay to pick on such an interesting topic and deliver an unique narrative.
Padman as a film should reach to maximum number of audience for social importance in this country and television is the best medium for that. Television would directly broadcast to over 150 million households and they will watch it because it is coming for free. India is a price sensitive country which is why television is consumed much more than cinema hence the producers get paid heavily for satellite rights. Akshay has a massive repeat value on television because of his highly entertaining films that were multiple times by Hindi speaking audience of this nation.
Padman also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in important roles and is based upon the life of a real person who made pads cheap in India. Akshay really bogged his stardom image down for this role and actually wore a sanitary pad in some scenes of the film to check if it fits right. In an important scene his insides could be seen bleeding with fake blood pouch that eh put on to test the sanitary pad and that maybe the bravest scene by far that any actor has done in Hindi cinema. For a mainstream star to pursue such subjects simply open doors for other younger ones.
