A teaser from the movie, Paltan has been released. The movie is directed by JP Dutta, the movie stars Arjun Rampal, Jackie Shroff, Isha Gupta among others, and is going to be released on September 7 2018. The teaser, which is quite short and foreboding, shows a line of soldiers that is walking in a straight line toward fight. There are four months left for the release of the movie, and it seems that a trailer and other material is also going to be available soon for the audiences to see. The movie is based on the 1967 Nathu La and Cho La clashes between the Indian and Chinese military.
JP Dutta previously directed the critically and commercially successful Border, released in 1997, which was also a war drama, that was concerned with the Battle of Longewala, between India and Pakistan. The movie was the second highest grossing movie of the year, behind only to Dil Toh Pagal Hai. The movie also won a national award.
Paltan seems to be another movie which is going to provide a lense on a topic that has not been depicted by the cinema. The actors involved have all a considerable fan following, so with right marketing, the movie could be another success for the cast and the director. The first poster of Paltan was release two months ago, and showed the INDO-CHINA armies facing each other. This is surely going to be a very sensitive topic for cinematic depiction, and hopefully, the movie is going to be nuanced about the experiences of the soldiers of India, without too much antagonizing the neighboring country.
