NCRTC Delhi-Meerut RRTS Construction: Current Status and Updates

The Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is a high-speed rail project that will connect Delhi with Meerut in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The project is being executed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), and is expected to provide a fast and reliable mode of transportation for commuters between the two cities. Here’s an update on the current status of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS construction.

Delhi-Meerut RRTS Phases

Project Phases The Delhi-Meerut RRTS project is being executed in three phases. Phase 1 involves the construction of a 17 km long priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai, which includes four stations. This section is expected to be operational by June 2023.

Phase 2 of the project involves the construction of a 32 km long section from Duhai to Modinagar North, which includes nine stations. This phase is expected to be completed by 2024.

Phase 3 of the project involves the construction of a 33 km long section from Modinagar North to Meerut, which includes 10 stations. This phase is expected to be completed by 2025.

Current Status As of March 2023, construction work on the Phase 1 priority section is in full swing, with the aim of completing it by the scheduled deadline. The work includes the construction of elevated viaducts, stations, and depots, as well as the installation of tracks and other associated systems.

The construction work for Phase 2 and 3 is also ongoing, with the focus on land acquisition, environment and social impact assessments, and detailed project reports. The NCRTC is also working on developing the necessary infrastructure, such as power supply, signalling and communication systems, and rolling stock for the RRTS.

Challenges Faced The construction of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS has faced several challenges, including land acquisition, environmental clearances, and coordination with multiple agencies. The COVID-19 pandemic has also impacted the project’s progress, resulting in delays and disruptions to the construction work.

Despite the challenges, the NCRTC is committed to completing the project on time and providing a fast and reliable mode of transportation for commuters between Delhi and Meerut.

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS is a crucial project that will provide a much-needed boost to the transportation infrastructure in the Delhi-NCR region. The project is currently under construction, with Phase 1 expected to be operational by June 2023. Although the project has faced several challenges, the NCRTC is working hard to ensure that the project is completed on time and provides a safe and efficient mode of transportation for commuters.
