Today, Google has given place to the famous Kannada language poet Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa on its Doodle. Kavi or a poet Kuvempu is known for bringing Kannada literature to new heights. Kuvempu’s poems have the unique beauty of nature. Today is the 113th birth anniversary of Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa poet of 20th century. Google has made a doodle and paid tribute to them. The poet Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa’s name was written in both prose and verse scriptures. But in the literature world, he got the name of fame Kuvempu only. Kuvempu was a strong supporter of Kannada language and it was his opinion that the medium of education should be Kannada language in Karnataka.
His Poetry like, ‘सुबह-सुबह ओस भरी पर हरियाली पर चलते हुए, और शाम को जो डरावना भी है, सांसे लेते हुए हे फूल, मैं तुम्हारे गीतों को सुनता हूं, मैं तुम्हारे प्यार में खोता हूं।’ gives the goose bumbs to everyone. Kuvempu had given the hidden depth and surprises in the surrounding things in his poetry. Born on December 29, 1904, in Mysore, Kuvempu was taken the dignity of Kannada to the highest level. Government honored their contribution and they were awarded the Gyanpeeth Award by the Central Government. Apart from this, the State Government also honored him with the National Award in 1958. In 1992, the Karnataka Government honored him with Karnataka Ratna.
If talking about films on his compositions, Girish Karnad made a film on him in Kannada. Girish Karnad made the film “Kanu Hegdadithi” in 1999, which was based on the novel ‘Kannu Subhamma Hegdadithi’ of Kuvempu. The story of the film was from a family before Independence. The film also won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film of Kannada in 2000.
His composition, based on Ramcharita Manas, is seen by connecting Ramayana Darshanam with the revival of the epic tradition in modern times. Due to this composition, the epic tradition revived once again in Indian literature. At the age of 89, poet Kuvempu breathed his last on November 1, 1994.
