Delhi Metro staff likely to be go on indefinite strike from tomorrow

Delhi Metro, which has become the lifeline of New Delhi, maybe stopped for an indefinite time from June 30. Actually, about 9000 non-executive employees of the Delhi Metro are going to a hunger strike for indefinitely time from June 29 on 10 routes. Due to the hunger strike of the employees, it is being said that the services will be suspended from June 30. The employees have warned that they will continue their strike until their demands are fulfilled. In front of DMRC management, employees include Train Operators, Technician, Operation Staff, Station Controller, Maintenance Staff etc. Obviously, when such a large number of employees metro employees will go on the strike, then it is certain to see the impact on other activities on the operation.

The council members have been protesting for pay-scale revision, modification of DMRC Staff Council as an employees union, proper guidelines for the sacking of an employee and that too in extreme conditions. DMRC management is constantly making efforts for the employees. There is a meeting is scheduled today with the DMRC Management in Non-Executive Staff. It is believed that in this meeting, the employees will keep their demands in front of the management, if the talks are successful then the strike can be over.

Members of the Staff Council say that if our demands are not accepted by June 29, then we will have to go to the hunger strike. Council Secretary Ravi Bhardwaj said that on July 23 we had protested for salary and grade issue. Then there had raised a demand for increasing the salary and grade in the meeting held with DMRC management. However, the DMRC increased the wages but he took supervisor and non-supervisor on the same grade.

Earlier, non-executive employees of the Metro had approached to go on strike demanding their demands. Just a few hours before the strike began, it was canceled due to DMRC management becoming a talking point. Due to which the services of the Metro had not affected. Since the cancellation of the strike, employees are blaming promise on management.

In a statement, the DMRC said, “Connection with the HR issues pertaining to a section of the employees in the DMRC, this is to inform that a meeting was held today at the office of the Regional Labour Commissioner (RLC).” “All the issues raised by the employees are under discussion and all possible efforts are being made to reach a mutually acceptable resolution as early as possible,” it said.
