Deadline for linking Aadhaar Card with government scheme extended to march 31, 2018

Today on 25 October, the central government informed the supreme court that deadline for linking Aadhaar Card to avail benefits of government schemes extended to March 31, 2018. 31st December the deadline declared By the government goes Niradhar after the Center informed the Highest judiciary of India Supreme court on Wednesday that timeline for linking the aadhaar cards extended. This move to extend deadline comes after the amid several petitions in the Supreme Court challenging the constitutional validity of Right to privacy. Week ago RBI too had announced  to link the bank accounts with Aadhaar card and made it compulsory to link aadhaar number to the bank account By 31st Dec 2017

The bench asked the Centre to mention the matter before it on Monday when the Attorney General, K.K. Venugopal said that he wanted to take instructions on certain issues of aadhaar card linkage. As per the government linking the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is beneficial to avail the benefits of several government schemes. Moreover, it brings the uniformity and will help in stopping corruption and crime.

Senior advocate Shyam Divan said the main Aadhaar matter should be heard soon, because of extension it has also not meant that no action would be taken against those who do not want to link their Aadhaar with either bank accounts or mobile numbers, it is necessary to link aadhaar card with government schemes.
