Condom ads restricted to run from 10 pm to 6 am

The ministry of Information & Broadcasting has now restricted the Condom ads from the prime time of television, and has now been allowed to be run only from 10 pm to 6 am. Severe action was imposed in a reciprocate response after receiving numerous complaints from viewers, who had complained about the indecent and vulgar content of the ads which could affect their children. The ministry said “ It has been brought to the notice of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting that some channels carry advertisements of condoms repeatedly which are alleged to be indecent especially for children.”

Sunny Leone, Bipasha Basu and Rakhi Sawant have all released condom ads in some capacity and they’re often run during the prime time, on channels that show content that is sensitive to the children, but can be seen by them, like all the channels showing daily soaps. Even the news usually run the ads more than one time during the prime time.

The ministry further commented on the issue and said that, “In view of the above, all TV channels are hereby advised not to telecast the advertisements of condoms which are for a particular age group and could be indecent/inappropriate for viewing by children. Indecent, vulgar, suggestive, repulsive or offensive themes or treatment shall be avoided in all advertisements.” And, it has also warned the channels to not overstep the ruling and obey the rules, because if not, “Any failure will attract action as per provisions of the rules.”

The new notice has been perceived from both sides of people, some of whom are saying that if the government wants to ban the condom ads from television, then they must also begin sex education classes in schools, so that the children know about the protective measures and other issues related to sex and diseases that can be borne out of them if people aren’t careful.
