Wonder Woman box office collection: Film grosses 8.85 crores in India

Wonder Woman which released in Indian cinemas on June 2, is off to a good start at the box office. The super hero film has managed to rake in 8.85 crores in its opening weekend. The film opened to 2.50 crore on Friday Day 1, beating Priyanka Chopra’s Baywatch which managed just 1.5 crore in comparison. Day 2, which was a Saturday saw the film earning 3.25 crore at the ticket windows, which was a decent growth. This took the two day total of the film to 5.75 crore.

Warner Bros, the studio which produced Wonder Woman in a statement said that the weekend box office collection in India was 8.85 crore (88.5 million rupees/ $1.3 million). This takes the Day 3 collection to approximately 3.10 crore. The film stuck to an English only release and opened in 349 screens in India.

Wonder Woman managed to garner decent reviews in the country as well as overseas and the box office opening it has received is testament to the fact that it is a well- made movie. The plot of this DC comics superhero film revolves around the princess of Amazon, Diana (before she is Wonder woman), who lives on the island of Themyscira, in the early 20th century and she is trained to be an invincible warrior, raised on a protected island environment. She then happens to meet an American Pilot who is washed ashore after a crash and he tells her about the horrible conflict and war that is taking place in the outside world i.e. World War 1. Convinced that she is capable of tackling the threat, she leaves her home to head to London, to fight a battle that will end all wars, discovering all her powers and her real destiny in the process.

In the USA Wonder Woman has created history by becoming the first woman directed film to cross the $100 million mark in the opening weekend.
