In between all the tension going on at the Inda-China border, a picture of confident looking Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jingping shaking hand with each other from the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, is getting a lot of attention in both the countries. Apart from shaking hands both the leaders praised the roles of India and China in international matters during an informal meeting of five BRICS countries.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Gopal Baglay twitted this picture by saying “At d BRICS leaders’ informal gathering at Hamburg hosted by China, PM Narendra Modi and President Xi had a conversation on a range of issues”
Prime Minister Modi assured Chinese President for the full cooperation for the upcoming ninth BRICS summit to be held in September this year in Xiamen, China under the Chairmanship of President Xi and gave best wishes to him for the same. In reply, President Xi congratulated India for social development and economic success and gave his best wishes to India for ever bigger success, he also appreciated India’s strong resolve against terrorism and the momentum in BRICS introduced under India’s Chairmanship and through the outcomes of the Goa Summit in 2016.
BRICS is a group of five countries which include in the order from left to right, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The five BRICS countries represent over 3.6 billion people which make about 40% of the world population.
