If you are planning to visit Kerala on the auspicious Onam festival, then it will be the best idea to travel as Ministry of Railways will soon start special trains to clear the Onam festival rush. So, it will be easier for the travelers to commute and to enjoy this auspicious harvest festival of Kerala. Onam is a beautiful festival of colors and hues along with the rituals that are practiced across Kerala. The Onam festival starts with people visiting the temples in the morning as it is believed that King Mahabali begins his preparations to descend from Pathala to Kerala on this day. In Kerala, the popularly Known Onam festival called as Atthachamayam that starts off with a grand procession at Thrippunithura near Kochi where Mahabali is believed to banished from the earth.
These special trains will begin from the key stations like Chennai Central, Nanded, Secunderabad, and Hazrat Nizamuddin to clear out rush during Onam Season. The Chennai Central-Ernakulam Junction is a special train with special fare that will leave Chennai Central on September 8, 15, 22 and 29 September while in the return, it will leave Ernakulam on September 10, 17, 24 and October 1 on Sundays.
As per the official reports on the other side, some special trains like the Yesvantpur the Kochuveli Tatkal Special train will leave Yesvantpur at 3.20 pm on September 1 and will arrive at Kochuveli at 6.50 am on the Same Day. And the Yesvantpur Tatkal Special while returning leaves the Kochuveli at 12.40 pm on September 2, Saturday and it arrives at Yesvantpur at 4.30 am. Due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging, the trains are canceled. And from tomorrow onwards the trains will again start for the Onam festival.
