Padman box office collection day 1: Akshay’s consistent opening day repeated

Akshay Kumar starrer Padman opened to only 20-25 percent occupancy in the morning shows but unexpectedly got a little crowded by the time day ended. Film banked 10.26 crores in it’s opening day which is quite good considering the fact that topic of the movie itself has cut down some audience or the collections of the opening day would not have gone lower than Toilet – Ek Prem Katha. Upon slight research one can figure out the women even in big cities still don’t enter temples during periods.

It would be impossible for some families to go and watch this together because periods and sanitary pads is an incredibly big taboo in this country which Akshay Kumar wants to break but nothing happens in one day. With one film, a man can only start a conversation or scratch the surface of a problem barely, now what happens after that will be the actual point of Padman. Open defecation is also a taboo but certainly not as big as sanitary pads because defecation is the common problem for both the genders while latter is specific for women who mostly don’t get a voice to express their opinions especially not in rural areas.

Collections of the film are bound to pick up on Saturday and Sunday due to strong word of mouth but Padman won’t be as big of a success as Akshay’s last few films grossing 125 crores on an average. Padman will not cross the 90 crore mark on the box office at all and might just stop at 75 odd crores because there are 2-3 new important releases every week now from around the globe which will influence the choice of audience. Akshay has chosen the route of bravery in terms of his film choices by spreading complex social messages in a simplistic way and that might not always convert into big box office.
