Hampi movie review: A simple but extraordinary story about love and meaning of life

Hampi is directed by Prakash Kunte, and stars Sonalee Kulkarni and Lalit Prabhakar. It is the story of a woman, Isha, played with utmost humanity and wit by Sonalee Kulkarni, who travels to Hampi to raise and nurture her spirits and meets people who make her understand the importance of life. The movie has a simple premise, and doesn’t boast and action set pieces or item numbers, with an effective backdrop setting of Hampi, it tells a simple story with extraordinary details and sensitive observations. There’s also a love interest, played by Lalit Prabhakar, and maybe the movie didn’t need a love story, but it is played with such honesty that you’ll forgive this little shortcoming.

The movie is modern in its inspiration, and doesn’t waste its background as a beautiful stage, but comprises it to make a point about how Isha sees and feels about the life around her.

In this movie, every character, with small or large contributes to the narrative, (Prajakta Mali is especially affecting in her scenes throughout) and has something to say, their words are not taken lightly, because they share their experience in such an openhearted and honest way that you’ll be swept in the journey that Isha takes throughout its running time.
