International Kissing Day, is a day to celebrate love across the world with the passionate act of kissing some you love. It was first observed in 2006, and has since then become a yearly eve of commemorating an act that binds two people together. And even though there is no particular historical artifact that points to the beginning of the tradition, the photograph of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square, America, in 1945 has become some of the most enduring images of love and has be intimated by a lot of people through the decades. The western cinema has also given us many memorable images, like the lovelorn embrace of Vivien Leigh and Clarke Gable in Gone with the Wind, to the Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling kissing in the candy colored world of La La Land.
The day is meant to show affection for your romantic partner, and all across the world, couples, Heterosexual, or Homosexual take part in sharing love for their girlfriends, boyfriends, wives, husbands. It is a harmless act that is only mean to spread more positivity in the world, without offending anyone, and with the consent of your partner. The social media is bursting with images of couples who try to replicate the most popular couples of the popular culture.
And, even though it is stricter in terms of display of affection to your partner in public, Indian cinema also has a couple of kissing acts that have fluttered the hearts of many, from Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Tamasha, Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma in Band Baaja Baarat. Slowly, and steadily, the country has pushed against the bounds of what is considered right, and has shaken those who try to restrict to showing love in the confines of your home.
