12 of family drown in Karachi; 10 bodies recovered

Twelve people from a family, including two women, drowned on Saturday in Hawke’s Bay Beach here, the media reported.

The family was visiting the beach from North Nazimabad.

According to reports, so far rescuers have fished out 10 bodies from the sea, while a search for the remaining two was still underway, Geo reported.

Eye-witnesses said three of the picnickers were caught up in the waves and several people jumped in to rescue them but got caught themselves and drowned.

Citizens fed up with recent high temperatures in the coastal city turn to the sea for recreation and to enjoy the day at the beach. Some residents, however, do not take necessary precautions and end up losing their lives in the process.

In May, up to 18 people, including four school students, drowned at various beaches of the city.
