Shikhar Dhawan only sixth to score century before lunch on first day

Indian Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan scored his 7th test Hundred in his career and becomes the only sixth batsman to score a century before lunch on the first day. Previously David Warner became the latest to join Victor Trumper, Charles Macartney, Don Bradman and Majid Khan to achieve this record. Dhawan completed his Century in 87 balls by hitting a boundary over Rashid Khan’s 7th Over. Through this century Dhawan also completed his 2100 runs in Test Cricket. Afghanistan who is playing their first International Test Match has been dominated by the Indian batsman Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan since morning as Indian Skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bat first.

It is the 1 Occurrence of an individual scoring 100 or more than hundred runs in the first session on the opening day of a Test Match in India. Dhawan is the first to do so. The previous highest was 99 by Virender Sehwag vs WI, St Lucia, 2006 in the first session.

Important Points

  1. During this innings, Dhawan Faces 87 deliveries to complete his 7th INTL test Hundred. It was his First INTL Test Hundred on this ground. And he became the 14th Indian and Overall 28th Batsman to hit a century at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
  2. It is the fastest Century by any batsman in the world. Previously Australia’s all-time favorite Adam Gilchrist became the first batsman to score the fastest Century at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
  3. During this innings, Dhawan’s strike rate was 114.29, which is also the highest Strike rate among all the batsman of the world.
  4. Dhawan took 30 matches to complete his 7th test Hundred and if he continues this performance than he could break Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Tendulkar had scored 3438 runs in his first 50 test matches, while Shikhar Dhawan is only 1288 runs away to cross Sachin’s this invincible mark.
