Serena Williams hits back on Twitter after John McEnroe’s comments

American Tennis star Serena Williams hit back on twitter after fellow american John McEnroe made insulting comment. In an interview with National Public Radio on Sunday the seven-times grand slam champion, John McEnroe claimed, 23-times grand slam champion Serena Williams and former number one would struggle to be in world’s top 700 if she would have been on men’s circuit.

“If she played the men’s circuit she’d be, like, 700 in the world.” John McEnroe said

To which Serena Williams later responded on Twitter in which he asked him to keep her out of his statements which are not factually based. “Dear John, I adore and respect you but please-please keep me out of your statements that are not factually based.” she wrote

In another tweet she very politely told him to respect her and her privacy “I’ve never played anyone ranked “there” nor do I have time. Respect me and my privacy as I’m trying to have a baby. Good day sir.” Williams has taken time off to have a baby.

Serena Williams has won 23 singles Grand Slams, only one short of Australian Margaret Court’s overall record of 24 grand slam titles and 14 more in doubles. Roger Federer, the most prolific winner in the men’s game, has 18 singles Slams and none in doubles. But still the male player Dmitry Tursunov, ranked 701 in the world believes he could beat her too. However, 34 years old Tursunov was once ranked as high as 20th in the world. He backed John McEnroe statement by saying that “I’ve never heard John say anything absolutely stupid.”
