RCB v/s KXIP IPL 10 Match highlights : KXIP Win By 19 Runs As RCB Batting Fails, Axar Patel Shines With All Round Performance
RCB’s batting failed again today as they collapsed to 119 runs in 19 overs, bowled out by a mesmerising performance by the Kings XI Punjab bowlers. All rounder Axar Patel played the match of his life, slamming a much-needed 38 towards the death overs, which helped take the Punjab side to a healthy 138 in their allotted 20 overs, and then claim back to claim three wickets in his three overs. He was helped by Sandeep Sharma who also claimed three wickets, in three overs. Meanwhile, it was a terrible show for the RCB with the bat, with only Mandeep Singh managing a healthy 46, while all the big guns failed. The Chinnaswamy saw a lot of fans turning up even though their team had no chances of qualifying, but they will certainly be disappointed to see their team lose a match which at one point seemed very winnable. For the KXIP, this may just be another step in their road to the playoffs, marking a stunning recovery after a forgettable start to the tournament.
Mohit Sharma to Aniket Choudhary, out Caught by Guptill!! That’s the final nail in the coffin. This is the lowest ever total defended at this venue. KXIP needed to win this badly and they did so with great ease. Fast bowler to fast bolwer. Result? He slaps hard and picks out Guptill at mid-off. Had only so much power. Alas! Aniket Choudhary c Guptill b Mohit Sharma 4(6). RCB have been bowled out for 119 runs.
Two wickets and four runs, this is amazing from Axar Patel. Mohit Sharma is going to bowl the penultimate over.
Axar to Badree, out Bowled!! Knocked him over! Down on one knee looking to thump Axar into MG Road. You miss I hit. Knocks the head of off peg. Badree b Axar 8(9). Yuzvendra Chahal is the new batsman.
Axar to Negi, out Caught by Saha!! Three fielders converge for the catch and Saha pouches it safely. In the end, Saha accepts while gliding into Varun Aaron who was running from backward point. It was a pull that never took off, off the splice of the bat. And then all the drama Negi c Saha b Axar 21(23). Aniket Chaudhary, right handed bat, on the crease.
Axar Patel [2.0-0-7-1] is back into the attack.
Eight runs, including a wide, off the over. RCB are somehow closing in on the target, although they have too few wickets.
10 runs off the over, Maxwell into the attack again.
Aaron to Negi, leg byes, FOUR, the rib-tickler. With fine leg inside the ring, not sure if that’s a great idea. Negi hops and misses the tickle, the slow-low nature of the pitch means it shoots a bit low to take the thigh pad en route to fine leg fancy boards.
Aaron to Negi, FOUR, full and wide, Negi twitches his back knee and throws the kitchen sink, a big-blooded edge flies away to the third man fence.
Four runs and a wicket off the over. Varun Aaron is the new bowler.
Maxwell to Aravind, out Lbw!! Aravind crouches and looks to sweep Maxi through square leg, doesn’t pick the line, neither the length. Strikes him low around off and that’s smashing into middle. Aravind lbw b Maxwell 4(6). Samuel Badree is the new batsman.
Maxwell is back into the attack.
RCB : 84/6, 13.0 overs; RCB Lose Too Many Wickets
Aaron to Aravind, 2 runs, typical tailender swing, ends up slicing it over the infield on the off-side. Make that two more. RCB need 55 from 42.
Aaron to Negi, FOUR, skates down the pitch, stays leg-side of the delivery and carves Varun Aaron over extra cover.
Three runs and a wicket off the over. Varun Aaron is back into the attack.
Sreenath Aravind, left handed bat, comes to the crease
Maxwell to Mandeep, out Bowled!! Things going bad to worse for RCB. No real turn, just stump-to-stump channel and fired it flat, Mandeep rocks back to pull, a big swish across the line. Misses by a long way and the middle pole takes the pasting. Mandeep b Maxwell 46(40).
Glenn Maxwell, right-arm off break, comes into the attack.
Four runs and a wicket off the over, Axar is having a really good match!
Axar to Watson, out Caught by Saha!! This is the fifth time Axar Patel has dismissed Watto in IPL, the most he has dismissed any batsman. Just wow! A quicker flatter dart outside off, from Jaddu’s book you would think. Watson goes deep inside the crease to flay it square, feeds the faintest of nicks to the keeper. Watson c Saha b Axar 3(6)
Thirteen runs off the over, axar back into the attack.
Mohit Sharma to Mandeep, SIX, clobbered over mid-wicket. Stays put, and waits for the ball to arrive, before laying into a delicate bat-swing over cow corner
Three runs off the over. Mohit Sharma into the attack.
RCB : 52/4, 8.0 overs; RCB in trouble as runs dry up
Axar Patel, left-arm orthodox, comes into the attack
Two runs and a wicket off the over. RCB seem to be headed for trouble after a great start.
Mohit Sharma to Kedar Jadhav, out Caught by Axar!! That’s just Mohit playing with the length. Tries to check his shot but ends up slicing it off the splice to short cover. Kedar wanted to go leg-side, and go big, but was hoaxed by the ball never arriving at all. Kedar Jadhav c Axar b Mohit Sharma 6(6). Shane Watson comes to bat.
Four runs off the over. Excellent spell by Sandeep. Mohit Sharma into the attack.
9 off the over. Sandeep Sharma to bowl his last over.
Aaron to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR, what he’s done here is ruled out Guptill at backward point. Hit it over him, and wide of him. Short and wide, talls up and cuts it ferociously.
Aaron to Mandeep, FOUR, good shot. Sees the length short and pulls it up and over the infield. Clears it easily for a boundary.
Ten runs and a wicket off the over. Sandeep has three. Varun Aaron into the attack.
Sandeep Sharma to de Villiers, out Caught by Saha!! Sandeep Sharma has Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers off consecutive overs. AB gets an edge on the charge and the keeper does so well to anticipate it all and move to his right to pouch that. Big wicket, RCB stuttering. de Villiers c Saha b Sandeep Sharma 10(6). Kedhar Jadhav is the new batsman.
Sandeep Sharma to de Villiers, FOUR, goes full this ball and that’s been smacked delightly, delicately through the other side of the wicket — Sandeep is from over the wicket to AB here. Takes the ball on the up and disparages it away
Sandeep Sharma to bowl his third over.
Four runs off the over, RCB are off to a poor start.
Aaron to Mandeep, FOUR.
Varun Aaron, right-arm fast, comes into the attack
RCB : 23/2, 3.0 overs; RCB Lose Gayle and Kohli
A single run and a wicket off the over. Sandeep Sharma has had a good two overs.
Sandeep Sharma to Kohli, out Bowled!! Kohli overruns, letting the ball sneak through and timbah. The trick was that Sharma stuck to a normal pace delivery. Kohli would have connected had it been a slower one. Wasn’t and bam, Kohli is gone. Kohli b Sandeep Sharma 6(6). de Villiers is the next man in.
15 off the over, great comeback by RCB.
T Natarajan to Mandeep, FOUR, inside edge runs away. Had to shuffle here to get behind this ball angled away. Instead stays there and looks to fetch it, getting an inside edge much to keeper’s left in the process.
T Natarajan to Mandeep, FOUR, this was half a cut at best. Jabbed the ball through covers. Natarajan angles this away, Singh stays put and caresses it away.
T Natarajan to Mandeep, SIX. A short ball down leg and Mandeep had helped the pull over fine leg with utter nonchalance.
T Natarajan, comes into the attack.
Seven runs and a wicket off the first over. Not a dream start for RCB.
Sandeep Sharma to Kohli, FOUR, first ball. Plays it real fine behind the wicket and gets a first-ball boundary to get off the mark.
Sandeep Sharma to Gayle, out Caught by Guptill!! The length’s been nicely shortened by Sharma, and also gets it to move away. The result: Gayle is down the track and slices an outside edge to gully — yes, there was one, for Gayle. Comeback done and dusted. Gayle c Guptill b Sandeep Sharma 0(2). Kohli is the new man in.
Mandeep and Gayle are at the crease. Mandeep is on strike. Sandeep Sharma will open the attack.
KXIP : 138/7, 20.0 overs; Punjab Set Target Of 139
19 runs off the last over. Some push at the end.
Watson to Axar, FOUR, turning out to be just the over KXIP needed. Kohli is furious at long-off. Kicks the ball back onto the ad boardings. Pitched up and Axar slams it straight down the ground. No chance for Kohli at long-off
Watson to Axar, FOUR, Axar seems to be having no problems on a surface where others have struggled. Short delivery on leg-stump, Axar pivots on his front leg and pulls it backward of square, couple of bounces and into the fence. 12 off the first three balls
Watson to Axar, SIX, massive hit! Makes a dent on the ad hoardings on the roof. Right in the arc – length delivery and outside off, Axar clears his front leg and heaves it all the way over long-on.
Shane Watson will bowl the last over.
Aniket Choudhary to Aaron, no run, wicket-maiden! You don’t see that often in T20 cricket. But Aniket is deserved it. He’s bowled well tonight and ends with figures: 4-1-17-2.
Aniket Choudhary to Mohit Sharma, out Caught by Kedar Jadhav!! Nothing but a short of length delivery angled across the right-hander, Mohit pulled and got an under edge to the keeper. Mohit Sharma c Kedar Jadhav b Aniket Choudhary 6(4). Varun Aaron is the new man on the crease.
Aniket Chaudhary is into the attack again.
KXIP : 119/6, 18.0 overs
Nine off the over, and a wicket with another batsman bowled out in the 20s.
Watson to Mohit Sharma, FOUR, bad delivery and deserved the treatment. Short and wide, Mohit threw the whole kitchen sink at that, sliced it off the outside edge to third man, got it fine enough and beat Aravind to the fence.

Watson to Saha, out Bowled!! Third batsmen out in the 20s. Watson has a wicket and has his finger up in delight. Wicket-to-wicket stuff from Watto, Saha made room to glide it behind point, was beaten for pace and the ball kissed the off-pole. Crucial wicket for the home side as Saha was looking to get on with proceedings. The off-cutter that skidded off the surface. Saha b Watson 21(25).

11 runs off the over, Shane Watson is back into the attack.
Aniket Choudhary to Saha, FOUR, slower delivery and Saha relied on placing it behind point rather than knocking the cover off the ball. No chance for both the fielders
Aniket Choudhary [2.0-0-6-1] is back into the attack.
15 runs off the over, good over coming for the KXIP.
Chahal to Axar, FOUR, good batting from Axar. Waited for the ball to arrive, used whatever pace was available and steered it fine, Badree had no chance at short third man
Chahal to Axar, SIX, floated up on a fuller length. A much needed six for KXIP. Axar plonks his front foot forward and hammers the loft with the turn over long-on.
Chahal is back into the attack.
KXIP : 84/5, 15.0 overs; Maxwell falls to Chahal
Five runs off the over, only singles.
Nine runs and a wicket off the over, Samuel Badree is back into the attack.
Chahal to Maxwell, out Caught by Badree!! Maxwell c Badree b Chahal 6(11). Axar Patel, right handed bat, comes to the crease.
Chahal to Maxwell, byes, FOUR, Kedar Jadhav is having a torrid time behind the wicket.
Chahal to Maxwell, byes, FOUR, Maxwell was beaten all ends up, tees off for a big mow to the leg-side, the ball goes on straight to beat him on the inside edge. Jadhav didn’t even try to get his gloves behind the ball.
Seven runs off the over, 70/4. Chahal is back into the attack.
Negi to Maxwell, FOUR, the reverse sweep from Maxi and he almost picked out backward point. Aniket is a tall man and he did get a fingertip on it. It was struck fiercely and Aniket did not have much time to react.
Pawan Negi is back into the attack.
KXIP : 63/4, 12.0 overs; Vohra Falls To Chahal, Punjab Struggle
Three runs and a wicket off the over.
Chahal to Vohra, out Caught by de Villiers!! The sea of red flags flutter around the Chinnaswamy. Another set batsmen doesn’t bat through the innings. The ball hung in the air for a long time before AB reverse cupped it calmly. Vohra c de Villiers b Chahal 25(28). Skipper Maxwell is in on the crease now.
Chahal is back into the attack.
Five runs off the over, Punjab need to step up on the accelerator if they have to put on a good score.
Shane Watson is back into the attack.
Just two runs off the over, Chahal has a good start.
Chahal to Saha, no run, stumping chance missed. Saha comes down the track and is beaten by the dip on the ball, it sneaks through bat and pad, Jadhav might have been blinded by the batsman, but still he should have done a better job. He doesn’t glove the ball and doesn’t pick it up cleanly either on the second attempt. Saha will be thanking his stars
More spin, Yuzvendra Chahal comes on. The spinners have done pretty well for Bangalore.
11 runs off the over, time out! Punjab need to regroup and fight back here.
Negi to Vohra, SIX, he’s a good striker of the cricket ball and Negi erred in his length. Too full and allowed the batsman to get under the ball, Vohra was down on one knee to smash it over the leaping long-on fielder.
Negi, the apparent hero right now with his scalp of the dangerous Marsh, is back into the attack.
KXIP : 42/3, 8.0 overs; Marsh Falls To Negi, Punjab In Trouble
The runs have dried up, three runs off this over.
Negi to Shaun Marsh, out Caught by Mandeep!! Negi has got a big wicket. It’s 39 for 3 and the visitors are in deep trouble. Clever bowling from Negi. He knew that anything full and on the stumps would make it easy for Marsh to target mid-wicket, he bowled this full and wide outside off stump, forced Marsh to fetch and it’s a mistimed hit to long-off. Shaun Marsh c Mandeep b Negi 20(17). Wriddhiman Saha is the new batsman.
Badree to Vohra, FOUR, this was the slider on the shorter side, Vohra went back to pull, the ball didn’t rise, went off the inner part and split short fine leg and backward square leg to perfection. Six runs off the over, Pawan Negi, left arm orthodox, into the attack now.
KXIP : 29/2, 5.0 overs; Shabby Start From Punjab As They Lose Guptill, Amla
Samuel Badree, right-arm leg break, comes into the attack.
Ten runs off the over, Marsh is looking in good touch.
Watson to Shaun Marsh, FOUR, no one at third man, he was actually inside the ring, so any width from the bowler is going to be easy, Marsh opened the bat face and nicely guided it past the man at 45
Watson to Shaun Marsh, FOUR, Watson bowls a gentle full ball outside off stump, Marsh crashes it through cover and picks up a boundary
Four runs and a wicket off the over. Shane Watson, right arm fast medium, is the new bowler into the attack.
Aravind to Guptill, out Caught by Negi!! Guptill wanted to go over mid-off, but lack of pace on the ball meant the bat turned in his hands on impact with the ball. Ended up slicing it and it’s a simple grab for Negi. Credit to Aravind for bowling the slower ball. This is a very sluggish start from KXIP. 18/2 and we are into the fourth over. Guptill c Negi b Aravind 9(10). Manan Vohra is on the crease now.
Measured third over from Aniket, just four runs off it. Aravind is back into the attack.
Aniket Choudhary is into the attack.
Nine off the over, Marsh has made a great start to a hopefully fruitful innings.
Aravind to Shaun Marsh, FOUR, Aravind bowls full in search of swing, it did swing away a touch, but Marsh was nicely forward to cream the cover drive from the middle of the bat
Aravind to Guptill, FOUR, Aravind bowls a fuller length and just outside off stump, Guptill lofts it over cover, didn’t come from the middle of the bat, but good enough for a one-bounce four.
Sreenath Aravind, left-arm fast medium, comes into the attack.
Aniket Choudhary to Amla, out Caught by Kedar Jadhav!! Clear nick, no appeal from the bowler, even the keeper didn’t hear the edge, but Amla walks. Amla throws his hands at it to cut it away for four but gets a faint edge. Not sure if the umpire heard that nick too. Would have been interesting if Amla had not walked. Amla c Kedar Jadhav b Aniket Choudhary 1(3). Shaun Marsh, left handed bat, comes to the crease.
Amla and Guptill are at the crease. Amla is on strike. Aniket Choudhary will open the attack.

Kings XI Punjab (Playing XI): Martin Guptill, Hashim Amla, Manan Vohra, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell(c), Wriddhiman Saha(w), Axar Patel, Mohit Sharma, Varun Aaron, Sandeep Sharma, T Natarajan

Maxwell: “We have got the most games left in the season and we are still in with a chance to make it to the finals. Our batting group has been pretty good and we were outstanding with the ball in the last game. Hopefully we can keep the standards up there for the rest of the games. We are unchanged for the first time, so very happy.”

Kohli: “We are going to bowl first. We look to back our strengths in the last three games. This looks like a better wicket than the ones that we have played here before. We want to give the fans as much entertainment as possible. They have been right behind us all these ten years. It’s not been the ideal season so far, but we would like to finish strong and have three good games. Travis Head, Adam Milne are out, Chris Gayle and Samuel Badree are back.”

Royal Challengers Bangalore opt to bowl after winning toss.

KXIP face the Royal Challengers Bangalore today at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The encounter is very important in the scheme of things for Punjab, as they look to beat the top four teams for a spot in the Playoffs. The Punjab side have had a late resurgence in the tournament, and are placed fifth in the points table, with 8 points from nine matches. They have an outside chance of making it to the next round, but they will have to pull matches where they have failed to in this tournament. Skipper Maxwell will expect his team, which includes the in-form Amla, Shaun Marsh and Varun Aaron to pull their weight tonight against the RCB, who are out of the tournament and are playing just for pride tonight.
