KKR v/s SRH – KKR : 161/7, 20.0 overs; SRH Win By 48 Runs

KKR : 161/7, 20.0 overs; Sunrisers Hyderabad win by 48 runs

S Kaul to de Grandhomme, out Caught by Rashid Khan!! Sunrisers Hyderabad make it five in five at home this season. de Grandhomme c Rashid Khan b S Kaul 18(15)

Siddarth Kaul [3.0-0-19-1] is back into the attack and he will bowl the inconsequential last over.

KKR need 56 runs in one over! Hyderabad have mathematically won.

Bhuvneshwar to Jackson, out Caught by Rashid Khan!! Jackson c Rashid Khan b Bhuvneshwar 16(17). Bhuvneshwar proves why he is the Purple Cap. Chris Woakes, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Starts with a yorker, and keeps it tight to give away only singles in the next four balls.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the attack.

Just 11 off the over. KKR need 61 in 2 overs.

SIX! Off the fourth ball! Drops it short, de Grandhomme looked ready and hammers the pull into the stands. Way over the ropes. Lovely, lovely hit

Mohammed Siraj [3.0-0-15-2] is back into the attack

Four off the second ball, but no fireworks, just 8 runs off the over. KKR have sunk to only their third defeat this season. 72 needed off 3 overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar [2.0-0-17-1] is back into the attack

KKR – 130/5, 16.0 overs

Wicket off the last ball, just 8 off the over. This game is a over for the KKR.

Rashid Khan to Y Pathan, out Caught by S Kaul!! Gets a wicket off the last ball of his spell and will finish with 1/38. A ball slightly on the shorter length – Rashid has been bowling that all day today – and the length, for once, has Yusuf in a mess. Y Pathan c S Kaul b Rashid Khan 12(13). Colin de Grandhomme, right handed bat, comes to the crease.

Rashid Khan to bowl the 16th over.

A double and two singles. There was a run out chance on the third delivery but Moises missed the stumps. The game looks gone from Kolkata’s reach. 88 required off 30.

Siddarth Kaul [2.0-0-15-1] is back into the attack

Four off the last ball, driven through the covers. Only 8 runs off Rashid’s over. This is as good as getting a wicket, 92 off 36.

Rashid Khan [2.0-0-22-0] is back into the attack

KKR : 109/4, 13.0 overs; 100 required off 7 overs

Three runs and a wicket off the over, this over might have just sealed the game for the Hyderabad side. 100 runs required off 7 overs.

Siraj to Uthappa, out Caught by Warner!! Caught at long-off. This is a big wicket, make no mistake about that. ide today. Nicely done. Has Uthappa toe-end the forehand slap kinda shot to Warner in the deep. Simplest of catches that; Siraj completely undid him with lack of pace. Uthappa c Warner b Siraj 53(28). The man in form is back into the hut! Sheldon Jackson walks in to bat.

Mohammed Siraj [2.0-0-12-1] is back into the attack

Last ball of the over, two runs, drives on the up and gets a couple. 103 off 48, seems very stiff.

Henriques to Uthappa, SIX, that’s a half-baked bouncer. At half the pace it should have been, so the shortish length is all too easy to deal with. Uthappa clubs it over cow corner with utter disdain. Gets to his fifty, another one this season.

Moises Henriques [2.0-0-14-0] is back into the attack

Bhuvneshwar to M Pandey, out Caught&Bowled!! Kumar bowls a cutter and has Pandey prodding at the ball way too early. Result: a chip back down to Bhuvneshwar, who tips it up in the air off his fingertips and then holds onto the rebound like a man who knows what he’s doing. M Pandey c and b Bhuvneshwar 39(29). Huge blow for KKR hopes. Yusuf Pathan will now walk in.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar [1.0-0-9-0] is back into the attack.

KKR : 82/2, 10.0 overs; 128 needed in 60 balls

Singles and doubles, only 10 runs off the over. Time for strategic time-out!

Bipul Sharma, left-arm orthodox, comes into the attack

Single off the last ball, 14 runs off this over, including a six and a four by Robin Uthappa. He is looking in fine touch, and KKR will depend on him in the final overs to take them across the target score.

Rashid Khan to Uthappa, FOUR, the previous shot forces Rashid Khan to pitch it short and Uthappa makes merry. Goes back and pulls it straight down the ground.

Rashid Khan to Uthappa, SIX, this is the second time Uthappa has slogged across the line off Rashid Khan. And like the previous occasion makes good connection again, sending it deep into the stands at deep mid-wicket

Only singles off this over, six off the over. Rashid Khan to bowl the next over.

All set now. Moises Henriques has the ball.

22:29 Local Time: Rain stops play. It is getting a bit heavier and the umpires don’t want to take a chance. Uthappa and Yuvi, who has his arm wrapped around the former, sharing a few words of wisdom. Might be about that altercation between Uthappa and Kaul earlier. We are hearing from Prakash that the D/L par score is 69, so KKR are 17 short of that.

KKR :52 /2, 7.0 overs

Single off the last ball, eight runs off the over.

Rashid Khan to Uthappa, SIX, if one shot could be included in the wikipedia page of ‘power’, this is it. 101 metres from Uthappa. Slogs across the line and puts a lot of flesh on it to send it over the deep mid-wicket fence. Was hit with the turn, yes a googly it was

KKR : 40/2, 6.0 overs

FOUR! Off the last ball! Pandey once again backed away in the crease and to his liking got a shortish ball. A cross-batted whip beat the man at mid-on first, before Warner gave up running across from deep mid-wicket. 8 off this over. Rashid Khan will be introduced into the attack now.

11 runs off the over. This was an expensive over, Pandey is in some mood today. Moises Henriques, right-arm fast medium, comes into the attack

S Kaul to M Pandey, FOUR, majestic! Half-volley this time but Pandey knew where the field was, hit the straight drive in the air but past the bowler. Is so straight that long-on does not stand a chance to his right

S Kaul to M Pandey, FOUR, and that is what you get for keeping the bat straight. Uncomplicated stuff, hits the on-drive to this length ball on the up and leaves mid-on redundant.

9 runs off this over. S Kaul is back for his second over.

Two fours from Uthappa, some of his golden touch from previous match can be be seen again.  Uses the pace and opens the face of the bat to bisect the keeper and Williamson.

Siraj is back into the attack.

KKR : 16/2, 3.0 overs; Gambhir falls to bad shot off Kaul

Four off the last ball, four runs in the over.

S Kaul to Gambhir, out Caught by Rashid Khan!! And with that KKR’s hopes suffer another dent. Good judgement there from the SRH fielders. This mistimed pull from Gambhir went high in the air towards mid-wicket. There were at least three fielders in the vicinity, but they communicated well among themselves and it was the Afghan spinner who called for it, eventually taking it reverse-cupped. Gambhir c Rashid Khan b S Kaul 11(11). Huge wicket! KKR are definitely down!

S Kaul has been brought into the attack.

Single to end the over, just three off it. KKR will need to pick up their game if they are to get anywhere close to the mammoth target.

Siraj to Narine, out Caught by Warner!! That will hurt. KKR needed Narine to fire, he does not. Makes room to this short ball and for some odd reason does not go full throttle with the cut. The ball might have held a bit on the pitch, mistimed to the right of Warner at extra cover. Good running catch from the centurion. Narine c Warner b Siraj 1(4)

Mohammed Siraj, right-arm fast medium, comes into the attack

Bhuvneshwar to Gambhir, FOUR, low full toss and Gambhir cracks it past mid-off to bring his second four of the over. Nine runs off the over.

Bhuvneshwar to Gambhir, FOUR, ends up being a short on the legs of Gambhir, who whips it from there. Through square leg and into the fence.

Narine and Gambhir are at the crease. Narine is on strike. Bhuvneshwar will open the attack

SRH : 209/3, 20.0 overs; KKR need to 210 runs win

Coulter-Nile to Yuvraj, out Williamson Run Out!! 1 run completed, though. Williamson run out (Coulter-Nile/Uthappa) 40(25). Useful Knock by Kane Williamson.

Coulter-Nile to Yuvraj, 1 run, dropped, easy chance. Sheldon Jackson it was. Shortish and on the leg stump, Yuvraj flicks in a whippy manner, looked like he had pouched it but it just popped out.

Coulter-Nile to bowl the last over.

Two consecutive fours off the last two balls by Williamsonm, one scooped to the fence and other edged to short fine leg. 16 off Woakes’s last over.

Woakes to Williamson, FOUR, that movement across the stumps was playing on the bowler’s mind, he tried to bowl full and wide outside off stump again, Williamson stays put, lofts handsomely to the right of mid-off

Woakes to bowl his last over, and the penultimate over of the innings.

Another double makes it 11 off the over. SRH are on their way to the 200 mark.

Coulter-Nile to Williamson, FOUR, that’s lovely placement from Williamson.

Six runs and a wicket off the over. This is a decent 17th over by Woakes. Coulter-Nile is into the attack now.

Woakes to Warner, out Caught by Gambhir!! Woakes gets his man after missing those two chances. But take a moment to stand and applaud this man. Great to see many KKR players go up to Warner and congratulate him for his knock. Slower delivery on the stumps, Warner goes for the slog, mistimes it completely, the ball goes high in the air towards cover. Warner c Gambhir b Woakes 126(59). Yuvraj Singh is the new man in.

Woakes is into the attack.

SRH : 169/1, 16.0 overs

Three FOURS! Off consecutive balls! Warner continues the mayhem as he smashes Narine all over the park. 15 off this over.

Sunil Narine is back into the attack.

Eight runs off this over. Warner is on 110, the third highest score by a captain in the IPL.

U Yadav to Williamson, FOUR. Spotted that long-off was inside the ring, picked the slower ball, went back and lofted that nicely over the top for a boundary

Umesh Yadav [3.0-0-23-0] is back into the attack

Kuldeep Yadav to bowl the 14th over. Just 6 runs off it. Kuldeep has recovered well.

SRH : 140/1, 13.0 overs; Warner Hits 43-Ball Century

Warner takes a single off the last ball to retain strike.

Woakes to Dhawan, out Dhawan Run Out!! End of a 139-run stand. Dhawan run out (Kuldeep Yadav) 29(30). Kane Williamson is walking in.

Woakes to Dhawan, FOUR, now Dhawan gets a boundary. Short and on the stumps, Dhawan pulls it through mid-wicket and beats the fielder in the deep

Chris Woakes will bowl now. His dropped catches are what are on everyone’s mind right now.

Five singles and a double. Seven off the over.

Sunil Narine into the attack now.

A single by Dhawan, and a double off the last ball completes Warner’s century. It’s a 43-ball 100. The helmet comes off and the arms are aloft in joy. A special effort indeed. He’s single-handedly manhandled the visitors.

Umesh Yadav into the attack.

Kuldeep Yadav to Warner, SIX, wowww! This is some hitting. Spare a thought for the bowler. Kuldeep bowled a full delivery looking for some spin, Warner gets down on one knee and slogs it over long-on. He makes KKR pay for the dropped catch. Warner on 98.

Kuldeep Yadav to Warner, SIX, dropped and it’s Woakes again. He misjudged one in the second over off Warner, now he’s palmed this over the long-off rope. This was an easy catch. Shake of the head. This may be the defining moment of the match. You can not afford to drop someone like Warner twice, especially when he is batting like this.

Two singles and a four! Another switch hit smashed through point by Warner, he is coming into his own today.

Kuldeep is back for his third over. He has been punished plenty today.

SRH : 105/0, 9.0 overs

A single to end the over. 11 runs off it. SRH are past the hundred mark.

Coulter-Nile to Warner, SIX, what a way to bring up the century partnership. NCN went short with this slower delivery, but Warner got the placement right. Warner has got most of the runs though – he has 80 off 35 balls. This is shaping to be a special innings.

Five singles and a double off Kuldeep’s second over, to make a total of 7 runs. Measured over, KKR will hope they have more of such overs. Coulter Nile to come back for a second over.

Two singles off the over, just 8 runs off Umesh’s over. Kuldeep will come back for his second over.

U Yadav to Warner, SIX. Umesh errs in his length, slightly short in length, Warner muscles the pull hard over mid-wicket and the bat made a sweet sound as it made contact with the ball. First ball after the time out, and the result is pretty much the same.

Umesh Yadav is back into the attack.

Two wides, 12 off the over. A poor first over from Kuldeep.

Kuldeep Yadav to Warner, FOUR, the switch-hit again and the backward point boundary is free. Bit of a top-edge from Warner, but the ball escaped. He doesn’t want to allow the bowler to settle

Kuldeep Yadav to Dhawan, no run, Uthappa fluffs a stumping chance. This is why a regular keeper is very key for a team. Dhawan raced down the pitch and swung hard, missed, the keeper was probably blinded by the batsman and he missed trying to collect to his right

Four on the first ball! Smashed it over mid on, Dhawan moves to 13. He has faced only 11 balls, amazingly.

Kuldeep Yadav is the new bowler into the attack.

SRH : 67/0, 5.0 overs; Warner smashes 20-ball fifty

Single to end the over, 15 off the over. It is raining runs for Hyderabad.

Narine to Warner, 3 runs, top edgeeee, but looks like it is his day, eludes Yusuf Pathan at short fine leg and runs away, the fielder dives and pulls it back just inside the rope

Narine to Warner, FOUR, he’s pierced that gap so well.

Narine to Warner, SIX, it’s a 20-ball fifty for David Warner. Greets Narine in grand style. This was the normal offie on the stumps, Warner was early into position for the switch-hit and he sent that over the square third man fence. Raise of the bat to acknowledge all the applause. Joint-fastest fifty by a SRH player in IPL.

Sunil Narine, right-arm off break, comes into the attack

Four, four and six! Warner punishes Pathan in three consecutive balls. This may be the openers’ day. Extremely good shot making. 17 off this over.

Yusuf Pathan, right-arm off break, comes into the attack

Four, six and another six! Warner puts Woakes away for a four and a six before Shikhar Dhawan joins the party with a maximum over mid-wicket boundary. Hyderabad are off to a flying start. 17 runs off Woakes’ first over.

Chris Woakes, right-arm medium, comes into the attack

SRH : 18/0, 2.0 overs

Shortish ball from Umesh, Warner wanted to pull, mistimed it, the ball went high in the air over mid-on, Woakes runs back, full length dive wasn’t good enough. Hyderabad will breathe a big sigh of relief. 3 runs off it, 12 off the second over.

U Yadav to Warner, SIX! This is a good batting surface to hit through the line. Warner bends his knees and gets under it, smashed over mid-off. First maximum of the night.

Umesh Yadav, right-arm fast, comes into the attack

Four! Coulter-Neil overpitches and Warner lofts it over infield. Six off the first over.

Warner and Dhawan are at the crease. Warner is on strike. Coulter-Nile will open the attack.

Kolkata Knightriders clash with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the battle of the top-of-the-table teams in this Game 37 of the VIVO IPL. May is upon us and it is the business end of the IPL season when teams brace themselves for second leg clashes, with eyes transfixed on the movements in the points table. Considering the playoffs format incentivises a top-two finish, the competitive streak in sides that have already established a strong foothold in the season doesn’t relent. There’s a clear disadvantage in letting complacency creep in, and teams with double the number of wins compared to the struggling lot will be well aware of that. Today’s clash will be keenly fought between these two teams, and a win here will signal to all teams a signal of intent of what can be expected in the Playoffs. Watch out for Gambhir, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kane Williamson in today’s clash.
