ICC Woman World Cup: Confident Indian Side Take On West Indies In The Second Group Match

The Indian women’s cricket team will take the field high on confidence tomorrow when they face the West Indies in their second match of the ICC Women’s World Cup. After their convincing win over England in Derby, the Indian women will be looking to notch a second victory over T20 champions West Indies, who lost their first game to defending champions Australia. However, the West Indies team was not too worried, taking inspiration from their loss to Australia in the practice game in Chennai before the T20 World Cup, which they went on to win.

Amongst the strategy changes, the West Indies skipper Stefanie Taylor has decided to promote herself to No.3 after batting at fourth down in the last game. “The captain has put her hand up and she said that she will bat at number three going forward. We have taken the proactive approach and taken care of that.”

India, on the other hand, pulled off a coup of sorts when they defeated England in an overpowering display of batting and bowling, and are brimming with confidence having won 18 of the last 19 ODIs since February 2016. This extraordinary tally will both give the Indians the psychological advantage and put them under pressure, but the captain Mithali Raj will be hoping to come abreast of the pressure part. Raj has been in sparkling form, having scored seven half centuries in as many games including the last against England. Indian fans will be a little worried about the fitness of the last match’s hero Smriti Mandhana, who had to leave the field in the second innings after a diving effort, but she seemed at ease in the two outdoors practice sessions that the Indians have had, and it looks she is okay to go for today’s match.
