Gautam Gambhir pledges to bear the educational expenses of the children of Sukma martyrs

Gautam Gambhir is one Indian cricketer who wears his patriotism on his sleeve, both on the field as well as off it. After expressing his sorrow at the loss of lives of CRPF jawans in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, in an attack by the Maoists early this week, the cricketer has now pledged to bear the entire educational expenses of the children of the 25 CRPF martyrs.

Gambhir has never shied away from expressing his views on matters whether they are political in nature or not. His respect and support for the Indian army is always reflected in his tweets too. The Kolkata Knight Riders wore black arm bands for their IPL match on Wednesday against the Rising Pune Supergiants at the MCA stadium to condole the death of these CRPF men and as a sign of tribute.

Gambhir took to twitter to announce that he would be extending his support through the Gautam Gambhir Foundation and that the initial steps were already being taken with regards to this. In his column in a popular newspaper he wrote, “On Wednesday morning, I picked up newspapers and saw gut- wrenching pictures of the daughters of two CRPF men killed in the latest attacks. One was saluting her martyred father while in the other picture, the howling young woman was being consoled by her relative.” He added, “The Gautam Gambhir Foundation will take care of the entire education expenses of the children of these martyrs. My team has already started work on this and I shall soon share the progress we have made.”

Complimenting him on his thoughtfulness, the Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu tweeted this morning.

Compliments continue to pour in for the cricketer for setting an example:

The maoist attack that took place earlier on Monday, led to the death of 25 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men and five others were injured. The attack took place on the personnel of the CRPF’s 74th battalion as they were helping the locals in road building and clearing activity in the district. The centre has assured action against the offenders of the ‘cold-blooded’ murder.
