CWG 2018 Day 8 Highlights: All Indian Shuttlers advance to quarterfinals in Gold Coast

India has already won the medal in the team event of badminton; the focus has thus shifted to the singles and doubles of men and women category. With that, the big guns PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth have been qualified for the Quarter-finals on Day 8 of Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. In singles, Kidambi Srikanth, PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, are the leading names in the Round of 16. In the doubles event, teams will be featuring Satwik Rankireddy, Ashwini Ponappa, Pranaav Chopra, N Sikki Reddy to name a few. In the Round of 32, India shuttlers got off to a terrific start by registering easy victories against their opponents.

4:20 PM IST- Ashwini Ponappa and N Sikki Reddy defeat Singapore’s Ren-Ne Ong and Jia Ying in the women doubles Round of 16 by 21-18, 21-13 to enter the quarterfinal.

4:15 PM IST- Ashwini Ponappa and N Sikki Reddy won the first game 21-18 against Singapore’s Ren-Ne Ong and Jia Ying in the women doubles Round of 16.

3:30 PM IST– Chirag Shetty and Satwik Rankireddy defeat Mauritius Aatish Lubah and Christopher Jean 21-8, 21-12 as they progress to the quarterfinal of the Men’s doubles competition of the badminton.

3:00 PM IST- Saina Nehwal has entered the quarterfinal of the Women Singles competition in Gold Coast after her opponent Jessica Li retired hurt due to injury. She was leading 21-4, 2-0 when she called off the match.

2:48 PM IST- Saina Nehwal has absolutely run over her opponent, IOM’s Jessica Li, as she picks up a 21-4 win in the first game. She looks set to go into the second game with the confidence to pick up a win here.

2:30 PM IST- Saina Nehwal will be in action from India in Women’s singles competition Round of 16 as she takes on Isle of Man’s Jessica Li. Can she enter the quarterfinals?

11:30 AM IST– Saina Nehwal will be the next shuttler for India, she will take on Isle of Man’s Jessica Li in the afternoon. She will also try to win to enter the quarterfinal. Another good start by Indian shuttlers, as they did on the previous day. All shuttlers have won their game without any difficulty.

10:45 AM IST- PV Sindhu has disposed of her opponent Australia’s Wendy Chan by 21-15, 21-9 in just 34 minutes to reach the quarterfinal of the Women’s singles competition in badminton in Gold Coast.

10:15 AM IST- PV Sindhu won her first game against Australia’s Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chan by 21-15. Kidambi Srikanth has won his first game against Sri Lanka’s Niluka Karunaratne by 21-10. Solid stuff from both the Indians in their individual matches.

9:35 AM IST– HS Prannoy easily gets past Australia’s Anthony Joe to enter the quarterfinal of the badminton men’s singles competition in Gold Coast. He defeated his opponent 21-18, 21-11 to pick up the win.

9:15 AM IST– HS Prannoy has won the first game against Australia’s Anthony Joe in Men’s Singles. It has been a good fight between the two, with the Australian taking the game right down to the wire. But in the end, it was the Indian who reigned supreme by 21-18.

9:00 AM IST– Ruthvika Gadde continued India’s winning run in badminton as she defeated Singapore’s Jia Min Yeo 21-10, 23-21, 21-10 to get into the quarterfinal. She took three games to clinch the win. Ruthvika Gaddew has won her first game. It was an easy win for the Indian as she disposed off her opponent in just 15 mins 21-10. She is leading in the second game by 10-7.

8:15 AM IST– After the first game, Pranaav Chopra and N Sikki Reddy victory easily against the Singapore duo Danna Bawa and Jia Ying in the second game to win the match 21-19, 21-13 to enter the quarterfinal.

8:00 AM IST– an Amazing game between Pranaav Chopra and N Sikki Reddy against the duo Danna Bawa and Jia Ying. We saw both the pairs fighting it hard, the balance kept shifting from one team to another, with the scoreline almost going down to the wire – Chopra and Reddy eventually went on to win the game by 21-19. Good show from the Indians.

7:30 AM IST– Satwik Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponappa have won their Round of 16 competition against Canada’s duo Kristen Tsai Nyl Yakura 21-10, 21-7 as they qualified to the quarterfinals.

7:00 AM IST– Satwik Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponappa good start in their mixed doubles’ competition as they won the first game against Canada’s duo Kristen Tsai and Nyl Yakura 21-10. They are currently leading in the second game by 16-4, and the victory looks assured.
