CWG 2018: Ankur Mittal seized bronze medal in Men’s Double Trap Event

Indian shooters continue to perform in the Commonwealth Games in Australia. In the women’s double trap, after Shreyasi Singh’s gold medal, India’s 26-year-old shooter Ankur Mittal has also won bronze medal with 53 points. Another Indian shooter, Ashraf Mohd, got disappointed in this competition. Scotland’s 21-year-old shooter David Mcmeth won the gold medal and also made a new record for the Commonwealth Games in this competition. He scored 74 points. Tim Neal of the Isle of Man captured the silver medal. Having secured four points from Meckmeath, he secured second place with 70 points.

Earlier, Ankur Mittal performed well with Ashraf Mohd and entered the Men’s Double Trap Tournament Finals. Ankur was the fifth in the qualification round of this competition, while Ashabh had secured second place. In the qualification of this competition, top-6 shooters could enter the final, and in such a scenario, among the 27 shooters, Ashbha and Ankur kept themselves in medal races while reaching the finals. Ankur secured 133 marks in qualification and scored five points in the shoot-off, while Ashbha secured 137 points. In this qualification, David Mcmeth of Scotland, with 137 points, scored six points in the shoot-off and secured first place.

In 2017, Ankur Mittal won the silver medal in the men’s double trap in the World Shotgun Championship in Moscow. Mittal had scored 66 points. He was leading the last four shots, but in the end, Russia’s Vitaly Fokiv took 68 points and earned gold. China’s Binyuan Hu won the bronze with 50 points in the final.

Ankur Mittal was born on 30 March 1992. Qualified in the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow and later reached the final and joined the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Ankur won the silver medal in the Asian Games in 2017. In the list of ISSF, Ankur Mittal had achieved the number one position in the world in Men’s Double Trap Event.
