Swami Dayanand Saraswati jayanti : his life and ideas of living a peaceful life

Dayanand Saraswati jayanti is the birthday of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. The founder of Arya Samaj, the noble society which promotes moral values is Swami Dayanand Saraswati. Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti is celebrated on the tenth day of Krishna Pasha, in the month of Falgun. This day is observed as a dry day in remembrance to the hindu monk. He had contributed a lot to the Hindu culture and tradition which is even followed today in our country. He had great knowledge about the Vedic literature and he has set many moral values in our country.

He was known by many names like Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, Dayanand Saraswati, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, etc but he was born with the name of Mool Shankar Tiwari. He was born in a Hindu family in Tankara Kathiawad. His father and mother both loved him. His father was tax collector by profession. He didn’t believe in idol worship. He once saw a rat running on the idol of Lord Shiva. He questioned his father that if Lord Shiva cannot protect himself from rat how will he protect him. He lost his younger sister an uncle. This incident made him understand the meaning of life and death. He left all his comforts and for 25 years was wandering for peace.

He has a mission to bring universal brotherhood following the path of vedas. Dayanand Saraswati founded the Arya Saman to spread these thoughts and ideologies. He founded this 142 years ago. Though the formal founding took place at Lahore on 24 June 1877 when it became more than just a regional movement based in Punjab. Arya Samaj condemns such practices as idol worship, animal sacrifice, pilgrimages, priest craft, offerings made in temples, the castes, child marriages, meat-eating and discrimination against women. He wrote many books to spread his ideas.
