Gudi Padwa is celebrated as the first day of the year by the Maharashtrians. This day is mainly celebrated by the people of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. This is a spring time-festival for Marathi people. In Hindu religion, every caste has different days of celebrating the new year. This is celebrated mainly in the state of Maharashtra. People of the state celebrate this day with great zeal and enthusiasm. Gudi Padwa day celebrates the day on lunar fortnight. On this day, a Gudi is tied up in the households. Gudi is a bright colored silk saree tied with a bamboo.

On this day, it is believed that Brahma created the universe. It is a very auspicious day for the people living in Maharashtra. It is also believed that Lord Rama killed Bali. Many concepts has been made for this day. This festival marks the most important three and a half day in the calendar. This day also marks a great importance in the hearts of people as it is believed that after slaying Ravana Lord Ram returned. This year it will fall on March 18. Everyone will celebrate this day with having any reason in one’s heart.

Houses are decorated with colorful Rangoli and variety of food is prepared on this day. Everyone go and meet relatives and celebrates the day with different people. Everyone greet wishes to one another. This is the first day of the year for the Marathi people. Everyone prepare sweets and exchange sweets. Every state and religion has a different culture and different festival. The same way, this day marks a new beginning in the Marathi people’s life. This day has great significance as it is believed that Lord Brahma created the Universe. Every year this day marks an importance in the heart of people. Many events and gatherings will take place on this day. This day makes people forget their mistakes and people forgive other.
