Durga Puja 2017 celebrations started in full-fledge with pooja, fun and enjoyment

Durga Puja is an auspicious festival that is celebrated all over India specially by the people of West Bengal in the states of Kolkata, Odissa,Assam, Bihar and many more people. The festival marks the victory of good over the evil as Maa Durga managed to kill the the demon Mahisasura. Today the 26th September marks the commencement of the festival with different cultural programmes, foods, dance and drama. This year Durga Puja is being celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and beautiful and eye-catchy pandals. Today being the first day of Durga Puja, Maa Durga will be unveiled from her beautiful avatar and will be worshiped with flowers, milk, honey and many more other things.

Durga Puja is celebrated for five days namely, Panchami, Shashti, Saptami, Ashtami and Navami but it can be called a month-long festival as it takes people, organisers and atisans to prepare for the grand event to take place. On the day of Panchami, a collective food stall is prepared where all the ladies of the society prepare different food items, show their culinary skills and win the competition being organised. There are many items that are prepared which may include Chops(Potato Cutlets), Bhajja (Different fried items) and many other mouth-watering food items.

Every year in Kolkata the idols are presented with jewellery of worth lakhs and sarees too and this year, Goddess Durga will be wearing 22kg of 22-carat gold that artisans from Bengal have crafted a beautiful sari with intricate embroidery.
