Vasant Panchami / Basant Panchami is a very significant festival of Hindu community. Saraswati Maa, who is considered to be the goddess of wisdom, is worshipped on this day. As according to the Hindu Mythology it is the birthday of the Hindu Goddess of Learning and Arts, Ma Saraswati. This worship is considered necessary for students and artists. It is also known as Saraswati Panchami and Shri Panchami. Vasant Panchami falls on the fifth day of spring, also the word ‘Vasant’ means “spring,” and ‘Panchami’ means “the fifth day.” It is believed that the worship of Goddess Saraswati on the day of Vasant Panchami, achieves success and progress on the basis of qualities in life. It is best to read Saraswati Chalisa with the worship of Ma Saraswati on this day.

On the day of Vasant Panchami, it is auspicious to wear yellow clothes. Vasant Panchami is considered the first day of arrival of Spring season. In the spring season, the beauty of nature appears everywhere. Moreover, in North India People fly kites on the day of Basant Panchami and welcomed the Spring season by singing and dancing in merriment on folk song. However, the public feasts are also held in Sikh Gurudwaras, school and colleges.

According to the belief whole day of Vasant Panchami is auspicious to perform Puja of Ma Saraswati. Many astrologers considered this day as Abujha day which is very auspicious to start all good work. Many of the people observe fast on this day and open their fast in evening during sunset by eating yellow colour food. Even on Basant Panchami, it is also very good to do Chalisa of Ma Saraswati. On this day people wear yellow cloth and yellow food should be known the auspicious for the day.
