Zimbabwe crises: Army takes control Over Capital Harare, citizens advised to stay indoor

Zimbabwe’s army seizes the Headquarters of National Broadcaster ZBC on Wednesday and blocked access to government offices in the capital Harare. Major general Sibusiso Moyo announced at around 1 am local time, on behalf of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), that President Robert Mugabe and his family are “safe and sound” with their security “guaranteed”. In the statement on News agency of Zimbabwe Major general, Sibusiso Moyo adds, “We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes… that are causing social and economic suffering in the country”.

“As soon as we have accomplished our mission, we expect that the situation will return to normalcy,” Moyo said. It is still not clear who is getting targeted By Arny. The major general requested people to remain calm and stay indoors until situation get normalized. And assures the Zimbabwean judiciary that its independence is guaranteed. He further asks the Security services should co-operate for the good of their country. Leaves of Defence staff is cancelled and asks the army personnel to return to barracks immediately.

While giving a message to the international community through media, The Major general of Zimbabwe said, “We wish to make it abundantly clear that this is not a military takeover of government. Zimbabwe military is to pacify a degenerating political, and the Defence Forces are doing so, the economic situation in our country which if not addressed may result in violent conflict.”
