V. Shantaram; Google Doodle honours veteran Indian filmmaker on his 116th birthday

V. Shantaram’s 116th birth anniversary marked by Google Doodle today. He was a veteran Indian filmmaker who widely known as the pioneers of India Bollywood Cinema. He was one of the successful director, actor and producer. And he was the one who played a vital role in introducing sound and colour to Bollywood industry. V. Shantaram was born on 18th November 1901, and he started his career creatively as a Theatre artist. Later on, he joined Maharashtra Film Company at the age of 18, since then he directed several movies including blockbuster Gopalkrishna of 1929. After that, he donned into actor career.

In the early 1930’s, V. Shantaram an ace filmmaker come over with the advent of sound. This Maharashtrian filmmaker directed various bilingual film like Ayodhyecha Raja in Marathi and Ayodhya Ka Raja in Hindi in the history of Bollywood industry. Along with famous filmmaker, he was also known as director for selecting strong female characters.

Kunku movie based on a popular novel that depicts the story of young girl who was forced to marry an ageing man in his direction which enthrals audiences. The brave social ridicule role of a female character has an impeccable impact on everyone. Similarly, his next movie titled Manoos was the featured love story that depicts the story of a police officer and a prostitute. Some of his famous movie are Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1957), Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje (1955) and Pinjra (1972).

Also, he won various awards including Silver Bear for Extraordinary Prize of the Jury, Grand Prix for the Best Sound Recording award by the Centre National de la Cinematographic. Also in 1986, he was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Lifetime Achievement.
