Sunanda Pushkar suicide, Shashi Tharoor summoned to court as accused

Shashi Tharoor has been summoned to Patiala Court on June 7 as an accused in the suicide of his wife, Sunanda Pushkar. He has been charged with abetting Sunanda’s suicide. She took her life in a five star hotel in Delhi in 2014. The police authorities found her emails and phone calls, which they’re using as a dying letter. It also seems to point the accusation against the former Union minister.  Sunanda had written an email to Shashi on January 9 2014, just 9 days before she took her life, in which she had stated, “I have no desire to live…all I pray for is death.”

The Chargesheet also accuses Shashi of neglecting his wife, even as she slipped even further into the depths of depression of despair. The couple used to fight a lot, and Sunanda suffered from injuries, and even though they weren’t too serious, they work as an evidence of abuse toward her. Shashi seems to have gotten fed up with her, because according to the charge sheet, he ignored her emails, and had disconnected her calls during the led up to her suicide. And even as Sunanda tried to communicate with him through social media, Shashi didn’t show any kind of interest and ignored them too.

Sunanda had accused Shashi of having an affair with a Pakistani Journalist and the two had a very public fight on Twitter. The couple married in 2010 and had always been in news since tying the knot. The police had suspected that Sunanda had been murdered in her room, at the beginning of the investigation, however, with no apparent suspects directly involved in her demise, it was concluded that she had committed suicide. Sunanda was 51 years old when she died. Shashi is still denying the evidence, and is blaming that the accusations leveled against him seem politically motivated.
