Sunanda Pushkar case: Chargesheet filed, Shashi Tharoor charged with abetting her suicide

The charge sheet filed by Delhi Police, four years after the death of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of politician Shashi Tharoor has been released. She was found dead in her hotel room, under mysterious circumstance, which led many to believe that Shashi could be involved in her demise. The charge sheet was filed under the Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmender Singh under sections 498 A (husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. And even though Shashi is mentioned as a suspect, and the chargesheet claims that the conflict in their marriage to Sunanda’s suicide.

However, they don’t have any evidence to prove their claims, hence he is charged for abetting her demise.

Shashi has taken to twitter to express his feelings about the decision, writing “1/2 I have taken note of the filing of this preposterous charge sheet &intend to contest it vigorously. No one who knew Sunanda believes she would ever have committed suicide, let alone abetment on my part. If this is conclusion arrived at after 4+ yrs of investigation, (contd.)” In the next tweet he says, “2/2) it does not speak well of the methods or motivations of the Delhi Police. In oct 17, the Law Officer made a statement in the DelhiHighCourt that they have not found anything against anyone & now in 6 months they say that I have abetted a suicide. unbelievable!”

The police authorities have said that even though there is clear evidence that she was killed, she was surely driven to commit suicide because of her situation and stress in her life, and the reason was Shashi Tharoor.
