Smriti Irani given additional charge of Information and Broadcasting Ministry as M. Venkaiah Naidu resigned

Union textile minister Smriti Irani has given the additional charge of Information and Broadcasting Ministry as M. Venkaiah Naidu resigned after being declared as the NDA’s Vice President candidate on Monday.

The Urban Development Ministry, which was also being handled by Naidu, has been given to Narendra Singh Tomar. “M. Venkaiah Naidu has resigned from his ministerial responsibilities. The additional charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcast has been given to Smriti Irani,” PMO India tweeted.

“Additional charge of Moud_India (Ministry of Urban Development) has been given to Tomar,” he said. Irani already heads the Textile Ministry, while Tomar is in charge of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.

Earlier, she was made the Minister for Human Resource Development department, but was removed in the cabinet reshuffle 2016 and Prakash Javadekar was appointed as Human Resource Development Minister instead of her. She was given the taxtile department then but now she is back in the big legue of the Modi cabinet.

During her tenure as the HRD minister, HRD Ministry have always been in a lot of controversies, people were always in the doubt about the capabilities of Smirti Irani, questions raised that what changes she can bring to the education system of India  which already have so many flaws in it. And then happend Rohit Vemula case and JNU conflict.

Despite having many reshuffles since BJP has formed its government in centre, The two key ministries are still without a full time ministers. Finance Minister Arun Jaitely has the additional charge of “Defence” Ministery and Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan is holding the Environment Department.
