Shiv Sena breaks alliance ties with BJP, will fight 2019 election alone

Shiv Sena has taken a drastic political step on the birth anniversary of party’s founder, Bala Saheb Thackeray, as it broke off its long standing alliance with Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). Shiv Sena will be stepping into the political fray next year alone, and are confident that they’re going to win  least 25 seats (out of 48) in the Lok Sabha and 150 seats (out of 288) in state assembly. The decision, even though it has been seen as shocking, had been anticipated for months now, as the Sena Leader, Sanjay Raut had previously suggested that the party could end their support to the BJP.

A significant cause of the split might have been Aaditya Thackeray, who had threatened to quit the Maharashtra Government last year. This will surely be a shock to the BJP, as they have been in alliance with Shiv Sena since 1989. Raut said that BJP had assured the Sena that they will promote the cause of Hindutva, but he accused the part of Demolarizing the Sena ever since it came to collective power.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that he’ll be wait and see further developments and changes. According to him, the two parties are still in alliance until the completion of the term. Udhav Thackeray had also felt furstrated due to the parties inability to control the rising prices of petrol and diesel. So, it could have been a culmination of all these reasons that led the Sena to take such decision. It should be noted that BJP won the civic polls with a majority, with the Sena coming in second with a few votes behind. Shiv Sena has also been quite unhappy about Narendra Modi’s tenure as the Prime Minister of India and has said that in variety of speeches and interviews.
