Sharad Purnima 2018: Sharad Purnima is called Mata Lakshmi’s materialization Day. Mata is the Goddess of wealth. Yash, rank, and prestige. Happiness is not possible without pleasing Goddess of wealth. It is believed that if Lord Lakshmi is worshiped properly on Sharad Purnima, then she boasts of being honorable. Celebrated on the occasion of Sharad Purnima or Kajogari Purnima, Kojagara Puja Purnima is more famously known as Sharad Purnima in most parts of India. The most important day to worship Goddess Lakshmi in West Bengal, Orissa and Assam falls on the full moon day in lunar month of Ashvin.

Most people in India worship Goddess Lakshmi on Amavasya Tithi during Diwali. However, Lakshmi Puja on Purnima Tithi is performed in month of Ashvin and is known as Kojagara Puja. The occasion is also believed to hold immense significance for newly wedded couples. In several Bengali households, devotees of Goddess Laxmi wake up early to prepare bhog and prasad and also observe fast on this pious occasion. The bhog and Prasad are offered to the deity in a grand puja.

Sharad Purnima is a very important festival, It is a harvest festival that marks the end of the monsoon season. On this day, the moon is filled with complete and sixteen arts. On this day there is a rain of nectar from Moon, which gives three major aspects of life wealth, love and health. Due to being full of love and art(Kala), Krishna created Maharas on this day.

Sharad Purnima also known as Kojagiri Purnima. Several myths, legends, and folklore surround the tradition of Sharad Purnima or Kojagari Purnima.

Why Sharad Purnima is Celebrated?

There is a story that Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Indra are worshipped and night vigil is observed. It is said that during Kojagiri Purnima’s night Goddess Lakshmi visits every house and asks ‘Ko jagarti?’ meaning ‘Who is awake?’ Those awake are blessed with prosperity. According to a legend, once a king was suffering a financial crisis and so his queen observed fast on Sharad Purnima, worshipped Goddess Lakshmi and observed night vigil. They soon regained their prosperity.
