Section 377 verdict: Supreme Court decriminalises homosexuality

Supreme Court verdict for section 377 brings an extreme relief for LGBT community in India. Section 377. Consensual sex between adult homosexuals in private is not an offence. A five judge on constitution bench strikes down the colonial-era provisions of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The law has finally accepted the change and interpreted as per the new demand of collective freedom for LGBT community in India. In the reference of court discussion, Justice R F Nairman said homosexuality is not mental disorder so it’s time to eliminate stigma attached to LGBT community.  This was very first step to bury Colonial Ghost and moving forward to give the LGBT community the other constitutional rights. Finally this year brings some new hopes for LGBT as they can embrace the freedom that were under threat.

Karan Johar expressed his happiness through his twitter account stating, Historical judgment!!!! So proud today! Decriminalising homosexuality and abolishing is a huge thumbs up for humanity and equal rights! The country gets its oxygen back!

After this historic verdicts, lot of reactions started pouring out from Bollywood stars in support to section 377 support. Sonam K Ahuja said, This is the india I want to live in. Not one filled with hate, bigotry,sexism homophobia and intolerance. THIS is the India I love.
