Kerala Sabarimala Temple Case in SC; In the matter of entry of women of all ages in the Sabarimala Temple Case of Kerala, the Constitution Bench of five Supreme Court judges will decide today. At present, women aged 10 to 50 years are not allowed to enter the temple. Actually, the Supreme Court has to make its decision on petitions challenging the entry of women in the age group of 10-50 years in Sabarimala temple in Kerala. The five-member Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice Deepak Mishra had reserved its decision on August 1 after hearing the case for eight days.

Important Points about Sabarimala Case verdict in Supreme Court

  • The Indian Young Lawyers Association and others have challenged this system. He said that this method discriminated on a gender basis, demanded to abolish it.
  • The petitioners also say that it is discriminating in the right to constitutional equality. The association has said that the condition of universal age cannot be made for 41 days for entry into the temple, because it is impossible for women.
  • Built in the 12th century, this temple is situated in Pathanamthitta district and it is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa.
  • The five-member Constitution bench of the Supreme Court includes Chief Justice Dipak Mishra, Justice Rohinton Nariman, Justice AM Khanvilkar, Justice DC Chandrachud and Justice Indu Malhotra.
  • On August 3, the Constitution bench reserved the judgment on the petition against the ban of entry of women between 10 and 50 years of age in Kerala’s Sabarimala temple.
  • Commenting on the remarks, the Supreme Court said that the temple is not a private property, it is a public property; in such a case, if a man is allowed to enter the public property then the woman should also be allowed to enter. Once the temple opens, everyone can go in it.
  • The Supreme Court said that the constitution does not run on history, it is organic and vibrant. Chief Justice Dipak Mishra commented that there is no theory about the private temple in the country.
  • During the hearing, the Supreme Court commented that the entry of women according to the age and said is this according to the constitution? The Supreme Court said that Article 25 is equal to all sections. The Supreme Court said that the temple is for every class not for any particular person. Everyone can come to the temple.
  • Justice D.Y. Chandrachud said that under Article 25 of the Constitution, all citizens are free to Pray or spread any religion. It means that the right to pray to you as a woman is not subject to any legislation. These are constitutional rights for everyone.
