The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) received the report from the Punjab National Bank, that accused famous Jeweler Nirav Modi of fraud and laundering Rs 10,000 crore from the bank. Last week, Modi, his wife and brothers had been booked by the Bureau for cheating of Rs 280.7 crore from the bank. And, in the wake of the scam, the shares of the Bank have fallen 8 percent, Rs 148, down by 14 points or 8.5 percent.
Punjab National Bank complained to the bureau that Modi, and his family, which includes, his brother Nishal, wife Ami and Mehul Chinubhai Choksi, who together own the Diamond R US, Solar Exports, Stellar Diamonds, have been allegedly responsible for fraud, and are also in cahoots with the officials inside the bank, who have been helping them to cheat money.
Nirav’s offices in Gujarat had also been raided by the tax offices last week, in which the officials found enough incriminating evidence about the family’s tax evasion. Nirav hasn’t been spotted by the authorities in India, and there are rumors that he could be fleeing from the country. There have been speculations that the mogul is looking to sell the company, but nothing has been confirmed yet. P
