Punjab National Bank fraud case: CBI to file chargesheet against Nirav Modi and others today

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is going to submit the first chargesheet today against Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi in relation to the Punjab National Bank fraud case. Usha Ananthasubramaniam, who was the MD and the CEO of the PNB bank is also expected to be included in the charge sheet. She is presently serving as the CEO of Allahbad Bank. As the reports suggest, more officials from the bank could be named in the chargesheet, however, their names have not been clarified by the authorities yet. However, all 19 people who were arrested in the case are going to be named in the chargesheet.

The agency is filing the chargesheet just before the time period of ninety days, so as to prevent the arrested individuals from seeking bail on the grounds that the CBI was unable to submit the  chargesheet under the time period that is mentioned in the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

The individuals who have been arrested in the case are: Bechhu Tiwari, who worked as the chief manager in the Forex department of the bank, Yashwant Joshi, who was the cale II manager in the Forex department of the company, Praful Sawant, who was employed as the scale-I officer responsible for the exports section, Manish Bosamiya. the former AGM of operations in Firestar International Ltd, Miten Pandia, who was the Financial manager of Firestar company that is owned by Nirav Modi, Sanjay Rambhia, worked as the auditor of Firestar company, Aniyath Shiv Raman Nair, who was the director of Gili India Ltd, which is a Gitanjali Group firm run by Mehul Choksi, Vipul Chitalia, who was employed for the VP banking operations of Gitanjali group.
