Priyanka Comes Clean on Property Issues – No Link to Robert Vadra Finances

The daughter of Sonia Gandhi, and the second-in-line to Nehru-Gandhi clan, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra issued a statement on Thursday saying her finances had nothing to do with those of her husband Robert Vadra’s or his company Skylight Hospitality. It is to be noted that Robert Vadra is under the scanner of Haryana government given the shady DLF deals he has been involved with. The statement which was issued by Ms Gandhi’s office is being seen as a reply to the reporters who questioned Robert Vadra about the link between the properties bought by Priyanka in Faridabad and the money he had allegedly received.

Priyanka mentioned in the statement “buying 40 kanal (5 acres) of agricultural land in village Amipur in Faridabad district for Rs 15 lakh on April 28, 2006, six years prior to the purported land deal involving Skylight Hospitality.” She also said that the money was given in cheque. Further, it has also been stated that the land was sold to its original owner in 2010 in eighty lakhs which was the prevalent market rate. And that, that transaction also happened in cheque.

The statement mentions “The source of funds for the aforesaid purchase was rental income of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from property inherited by her from her grandmother Indira Gandhi. The source of funds for this or any other property acquired by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has no relationship whatsoever with Shri Robert Vadra’s finances and/or Skylight Hospitality and no relationship whatsoever with DLF”.

While the statement has claimed that all the allegations against Ms. Gandhi are a campaign to malign her and her family’s name, this line of defense certainly has raised many questions in the eyes of those who have accused congress of corruption for many years now.
