Power snap brings trains on Phagwara-Amritsar section to a halt

Rail traffic on the busy Phagwara-Amritsar section of the Amritsar-Delhi route was disrupted for several hours on Wednesday due to the snapping of the overhead power lines after an accident involving a car.

Nearly a dozen-odd express and other trains were affected, some delayed by up to four hours.

Police and railway officials said the car hit an iron guard railing on a railway overbridge near Cheheru village on the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway, about 150 km from here, which in turn fell on the overhead railway power lines below and snapped the supply.

The car was impounded by the Railway Protection Force though the erring driver fled the spot.

Trains running on the Amritsar-Delhi tracks were stranded at Jalandhar Cantonment, Beas, Kartarpur, Jandiala Guru and other places en route.

Rail traffic on the route was restored after the repair of the power lines.
