Passengers foil robbery bid on train in MP

A robbery attempt on board Sampark Kranti Express near here was foiled by passengers, leading to the arrest of two goons, police said on Friday. One passenger was injured in firing that occurred during the incident.

Late on Thursday, four robbers tried to loot passengers in the general coach of the Yeshwantpur-Nizamuddin train when it was between Bhopal and Vidisha, Superintendent of Police, Railways, Anita Malviya told IANS.

When people opposed the robbery bid, one of the miscreants brandished a pistol and fired, injuring one passenger. However, when the coach occupants did not cow down, two robbers pulled the emergency chain and fled while the other two were captured, the police officer said.

The captured robbers were badly beaten up and then handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) when the train reached Bina around 2.15 a.m.

The police also recovered a police recruitment form from one of the accused.
