Mary Kom resigns from National Observer position for boxing

India’s spectacular boxer MC Mary Kom has resigned as the National Observer for boxing. The five-time world champion Indian boxer Mary Kom resigned from National observer after the sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore made it clear that she is an active sportsperson, thus, will not be considered for the position. In the statement, Boxing Champion Mary Kom said she resigned as National Observer ten days ago after speaking with Mr Rathore. Mary Kom who won her fifth Asian Championships gold medal last month said she had requested to accept the position. She said she enquire about the rule of not having active sportsperson as the observer with Sports Secretary Injeti Srinivas.

Therefore, her appointment smacked of conflict of interest given that she is still active sportsperson. However, that time Ministry insists her to accept the position. She added she did not want any unnecessary controversies. The 35-year-old bronze medallist boxer was appointed as the national observer in March by the sports minister Vijay Goel.

Mary Kom said she had no complaints and happy to let it go. As she was never interested in this but accepted the position because she was requested to do so. The talented and spectacular boxer Mary Kom is active sportsperson along with Rajya Sabha member.
