The Durga Puja idol immersion ban row took a new turn today with the Kolkata high court issuing statement asking the state not to divide communities on religious lines. Two days ago Mamata Banerjee gave a statement on the immersion of Durga idols and now has been slammed by the Calcutta High Court for making such a decision. According to IANS, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said such comments against her are “deeply insulting”.
“I do not believe in appeasement. These comments are deeply insulting. I believe in the religion of humanity that talks about the harmony among all the religions,” Banerjee said while inaugurating a Durga Puja in south Kolkata. She also accused the central government of conspiring against Bengal.
The Mamata Banerjee government issued a notification that the immersion of Durga Idol should be stopped between September 30 and October 1 on account of Muharram that is being observed by the Muslims as a day of mourning and so the immersion can take place on October 2. So being a Bengali Hindu it should not have been done by her.
The Chief minister of West Bengal had asked the Durga Puja organisers to complete the immersion process by 6 pm on September 30 which was later extended to 10 pm. As per the rules, the idol should be immersed on the day of Dashami. The West Bengal government gave many reason for this decision but failed in keeping it. As a result of this, some of the Hindu organisations made their way to court and filed a petition against the chief minister and we can say that they got the desired result.
