The BJP on Thursday appointed Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of State for Human Resource Development, as President of its Uttar Pradesh unit.
A party release said the appointment of Pandey, an MP from Chandauli, has been made with immediate effect.
Pandey replaces Keshav Prasad Maurya, who is Deputy Chief Minister in Uttar Pradesh.
The BJP announced on Wednesday that Maurya will be a candidate for the coming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections.
