Mahalaxmi Puja is an auspicious ceremony that performed by devotees on the Friday before the full moon in the Hindu calendar of the Shravan month. On this festival devotees worshipped for 16 days and on the last day of the festival, they worshipped at river or lake with more excitement. Mahalaxmi Vrath is performed mainly in the southern Indian states such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Odisha.

It is a festival of Goddess Laxmi who is popularly known as Mahalaxmi. Goddess Laxmi is a goddess of wealth, prosperity, good fortune, fertility, and auspiciousness. She is the consort of Lord Vishnu. Goddess Laxmi puja is preferably done by using red and yellow colored silk garments. This festival celebrated for 16 days that starts from August and ends on September. This year it starts from 17th August to 12th September.

On this Mahalxmi Vrath, devotees use quince fruit, plum fruits, roses, Kamal, sandalwood attar, cow ghee, panchamrita, gemstone jewelry, idols of Goddess Laxmi, Lord Vishnu and Lord Ganesh for Mahalaxmi Puja samagri. Mahalaxmi Vrat is an important Vratha for all the devotees of Goddess Laxmi. According to the devotees, Laxshmi is a wife of Lord Vishnu who visits devotees to bestows gifts and blessings upon each of them. And it is believed that on this day Goddess Laxmi showers her blessings on mankind for glory and prosperity.

Mahalaxmi Puja Mantra

  • Lakshmi Beej Mantra: ॐ ह्रीं श्रीं लक्ष्मीभयो नमः॥ “Om Hreem Shreem Lakshmibhayo Namah॥”
  • Mahalakshmi Mantra: ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं श्रीं कमले कमलालये प्रसीद प्रसीद ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं श्रीं महालक्ष्मयै नम:॥ “Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Kamale Kamalalaye Praseed Praseed-Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Mahalakshmaye Namah॥”
  • Lakshmi Gayatri Mantra: ॐ श्री महालक्ष्म्यै च विद्महे विष्णु पत्न्यै च धीमहि तन्नो लक्ष्मी प्रचोदयात् ॐ॥ “Om Shree Mahalakshmyai Cha Vidmahe Vishnu Patnyai Cha Dheemahi Tanno Lakshmi Prachodayat Om॥”
