Latest Update on RRTS Priority Section: Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor Expected to be Completed by June 2023

The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is an ambitious high-speed rail project aimed at connecting the National Capital Region of Delhi with neighbouring cities in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is an important component of the RRTS, which is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the cities, boost regional connectivity, and promote sustainable transportation.

Project Overview The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor involves the construction of a 82 km long, three-corridor RRTS network that will connect Delhi with Meerut through the Ghaziabad-RRTS station. The project is being executed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and is expected to provide a fast and reliable mode of transportation for commuters between the cities.

Current Status As of March 2023, the construction work for the RRTS priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai, which is the first phase of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, is in full swing. This 17 km long section involves the construction of four stations and is expected to be operational by June 2023.

The NCRTC has completed the construction of two stations, Sahibabad and Guldhar , and the construction work for the remaining two stations, Ghaziabad and Duhai is in progress. The work includes the installation of platform screen doors, escalators, lifts, and other station facilities. The construction of the elevated viaducts, and depots, as well as the installation of tracks and other associated systems, is also underway. The NCRTC has completed the construction of the viaducts , precast beams and piers for the elevated section.

Challenges Faced The construction of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor has faced several challenges, including land acquisition, environmental clearances, and coordination with multiple agencies. The COVID-19 pandemic has also impacted the project’s progress, resulting in delays and disruptions to the construction work.

Despite the challenges, the NCRTC is committed to completing the project on time and providing a fast and reliable mode of transportation for commuters between Delhi and Meerut.

Conclusion The construction of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is progressing well, with the aim of completing the priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai by June 2023. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the cities and promote sustainable transportation. Although the project has faced several challenges, the NCRTC is working hard to ensure that the project is completed on time and provides a much-needed boost to the transportation infrastructure in the Delhi-NCR region.
