Janata Dal Secular (JDS) leader HD is going to face a floor test to prove majority in the Karnataka Assembly today. Governor Vajubhai Vala had set the deadline for the test for 15 days. BJP failed to win the majority vote in the assembly, which caused then Chief Minister, B.S Yeddyurappa, to step down from his position, although’s he’d resigned before the voting took place. The JDS-Congress alliance has a majority of 114 seats, and it seems that Kumaraswamy is going to be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. Ahead of the vote, Kumaraswamy has said that he is not worried about the outcome.
The Congress-JDS alliance has made arrangements for the members, and has been shuffling from five star hotels, to avoid any threats to defect and give up the votes. A decicion has been made to bring them to assembly only before the voting starts.
There has been some discontent over the positions, as G Parameshwara’s elevation to the post of deputy chief has caused major upset for Congress leader DK Shivakumar, who was also the contender for the position. However, Parameshwara has said that he’s confident about the alliance’s victory, because they have the majority on their side. BJP, after the massive loss in the floor test, hasn’t yet given up, and has BJP today fielded its senior leader S Suresh Kumar, as a speaker. He is a fifth term MLA, and his appointment election is going to be conducted before the floor test.
