The Election Commission has announced that the Karnataka Elections are going to be held on May 12, 2018, in a single phase, with the results to be delivered on May 15 2018. However, the dates for the elections were leaked before the official announcement, and the commission has said that they’ll investigation the matter further. The election commission held a press conference in which it said that special arrangements are going to be made for women’s safety, with 450 all female centres to be set to ensure their protection. VVPATS are going to be used during the polling. Photographs of all the candidates who are up for the elections is going to be attached to the machines.

The model code of conduct has come immediately for Karnataka. The use of loudspeakers is restricted from usage from 10 pm to 6 am. The election expenditure is also going to be overseen by the authorities. The candidate can expend till 28 lakhs, but there is no limit on the spending of the political parties for the campaign.

Amit Shah held a conference after the announcement of the election dates, and among other things, said that there are fewer suicides in BJP ruled states than in Karnataka. He stressed that the law and order situation in the state is of grave concern and if BJP comes into power it is going to be their top priority.
