Judge Loya death case: Supreme court transfers two cases to itself

The Supreme Court has transferred two cases related to the suspicion on the death of Judge Loya, from the Bombay High Court, to itself. It also advised the High Courts to not hear any PIL that is related to Loya’s death. The Bombay Lawyer’s Association had filed a PIL, seeking probe in the suspicious death of Loya, on January 8. The CJI bench was headed by Dipak Misra, and heard the petitions that were related to and were seeking a probe in the death of Loya. Statements from four Lawyers were also presented to the court, who had stated that Loya indeed died of a heart attack and they took him to the hospital.

Judge Loya’s death has become one of the most controversial news topics of the previous, and this year. It resurfaced when four judges held a press conference, an unprecendented even in itself, and asked people to save the constitution. Then, Anuj Loya, son of Loya, told the media that the family was not suspicious of anyone, any longer. He told that his father’s death had caused his much worry, and it was because of the amount of tension that he was led to believe that the cause of his father’s death had been unnatural.

He had also asked the politicians to not politicize the topic for their own gains. Judge Loya had died while he was still hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, in which the main suspect was the BJP leader Amit Shah. The judge who took Loya’s place had acquitted him from all charges. This had raised many eyebrows in the media and in public too, and there was obvious blame on the accused parties for the murder of Loya. However, Loya died in 2014, and his demise was trudged up last year when the petitions were filed to ask for an inquiry.
